Celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2015, the Music Foundation of Greater Naples – MFGN – (formerly the Naples Music Club) is the oldest organization in the Naples area devoted to music.  Its Scholarship Program has flourished since 1970, with more than $550,000 awarded to almost 800 students. This year, the club expects to award a total of almost $40,000 to over 60 students, ages 11-18, from Collier County and neighboring communities. Awards are used for summer music camp, private music lessons, instrument upgrade, or college tuition. The Outreach Programs, discussed in the next paragraph, represent a further investment of $80,000 in students from low-income families.

The MFGN enables students with financial needs to enjoy the benefits of musical education.  Programs include the funding of private lessons for students who have never studied privately, a pre-K literacy/violin program, class piano lessons in after-school programs, and Middle School Master Classes where students in small groups (2-6 students) are coached by professional musicians.

A statistician in the Collier County Public Schools is working to document the impact of MusicScores!, the pre-K literacy/violin program. Children in the program increased their kindergarten readiness scores to 90% readiness compared to 66 % in children who did not have the violin program.

Expansion of these programs has been enabled by generous support from our donors and by grants from the Community Foundation of Collier County and the Naples Children & Education Foundation (Founders of the Naples Winter Wine Festival).

The benefits of financially supporting the MFGN as a “Friend” are many.  All Friends receive newsletters and invitations to concerts and special events.  Friends who are musicians may participate in small performance groups.  Friends who teach music are invited to have their students participate in student recitals. All benefit from knowing that their supporting dollars are enriching the lives and talents of deserving students through music.
