Members Stu Warshauer and Martin Cohn Perform in the Naples Klezmer Revivial Band at JFCS

On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, NMC Club members Stu Warshauer (violin) and Martin Cohn (clairnet) along with Art Isenberg (piano) and Perry Switzen (bass guitar), performed a variety of Klezmer musical pieces at a program for the Jewish Family and Community Services . Klezmer is a kind of Jewish folk music, much of which was conceived in Europe prior to the 19th century. The music tends to be upbeat and lively. The Naples Klezmer Revival Band brings this music to the Greater Naples area.

The Program included:

  • A Sher – from the Jewish Folk Ensemble of the Ukrainian S.S.S.R.
  • Rumanian Bulgarish – folk dance music
  • Leon’s Khosidl – Another folk dance tune featuring Stu on the violin
  • Der Heyser Bulgar – “The Hot Bulgar” featuring Marty on clarinet (made famous by Naftule Brandwein and Dave Tarras in the 1920’s.)
  • Nifty’s Freylekhs – upbeat music for dancing
  • Sholem’s Bulgarish – finale combining several types of Klezmer music.

There was audience participation with clapping and even singing. After the performance the Band received well-earned applause.
