Delight in fine performances by members of the Naples Music Club as they share their impressive talents with an appreciative public. Strings, woodwinds, brass, vocalists and piano will be represented in this showcase spanning a variety of musical eras and traditions. Reception to follow.

Open to the public at no charge. Free-will donations will benefit the Naples Music Club Scholarship Fund.

Members, their guests, and friends of the Naples Music Club are invited  to attend this convivial holiday dinner to be held at one of the area’s finest clubs. Entertainment will be provided by the club’s 2011 Scholarship Competition Winners, making this an event featuring both superb performances and exceptional  camaraderie.

Directions: The Naples Yacht Club (not to be confused with the Naples Sailing and Yacht Club) is at the intersection of 7th St. S. and 14th Ave. S. Heading south on Rt. 41 towards Naples, where it makes a right angle turn to the left (east), continue straight. The signage here says “Historic District” with an arrow pointing straight.  This is 9th St. S. Continue for .9 miles to Broad Ave. Turn right. Take the second left (in .2 miles) onto 7th St. S. The Naples Yacht Club is the last building on the left.

A Day of Great Music at FGCU

Enjoy a day on the FGCU campus. According to Coordinator Myra Williams, “FGCU is a remarkable university that has implemented outstanding planning for the direction and growth focusing on academic excellence, ‘green’ architectural design, and use of sustainable energy. The Bower school of Music is housed in an incredibly innovative building, and the faculty has attracted world-class students.” Choose between two tracks: Track I will begin at 10:00 and will consist of a tour of FGCU, including the Bower School of Music, lunch, attending music classes and/or ensemble coaching sessions, rehearsals, and the student recital. Track II will also start at 10:00. This track has a more concentrated music focus without the campus tour. It includes attending additional music classes/coaching sessions, lunch, rehearsals, and the student recital.

Fee of $25 to participate includes lunch. Space is limited; members will receive priority. Reserve by contacting Myra Williams (phone number above) and by sending checks, made payable to Naples Music Club,” earmarked for “Day at FGCU,” to Myra Williams, 1626 Chinaberry Way, Naples, FL 34105. Include your desired track (I or II), phone and email address (your reservation will be confirmed). Car pooling is strongly encouraged.

Directions to FGCU:

From the north: Take I-75 South to Exit 128, Alico Road. Go east (left) on Alico Road for half of a mile Go south (right) on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway for two miles. Turn left at the stoplight at the main FGCU entrance.

From the south: Take I-75 North to  Exit 123, Corkscrew Road. Go east (right) on Corkscrew Road for half of a mile. Turn north (left) on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway; go three miles to FGCU entrance. Note: If coming from Three Oaks Parkway, a new extension of Estero Parkway provides an overpass that links the road from Three Oaks Parkway to Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. One traffic light to the north on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway is the main entrance to the FGCU campus.

When you arrive at the entrance to FGCU, go to the stop sign and turn right. then left at the second stop sign. The Bower School of Music will be on your immediate right. Parking is available in the lot on  your right or the garage on the left. There is also handicapped parking and a drop-off area at the school’s entrance.

Pianist/composer Conrad Tao, 17, who received rave reviews as a violinist as well as a pianist when he appeared in concerts in Naples four years ago, returns to perform selections by Franz Liszt in a gala piano recital to benefit the Naples Music Club’s Scholarship Fund.  The benefit, to be held in Maestro Noll’s extraordinary home, will be followed by a champagne reception.

Concert Pianist Richard Bosworth will perform a solo recital on a rare collector’s piano as a musical tribute to his longtime piano colleague and friend, Laura Fernando. The Naples Music Club and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Greater Naples are partnering to present this special recital. Reception to follow.

2012 Annual Student Scholarship Competition

This prestigious competition, which has taken place since 1970, is for competitors and contest officials only.

Directions to Golden Gate High School: From Rt. 41 in Naples, take Golden Gate Parkway east to I-75. Merge onto I-75 S towards Miami. Take Exit 101 for CR-951 toward Marco Island/Naples. Keep in left hand lane. Turn left onto CR-951 N/Golden Gate. Continue past the ramp leading to I-75 north. In .5 mile turn left at a traffic light onto Magnolia Pond Drive. Golden Gate High School will be .7 mile on your right. Alternately, if you prefer not to use I-75, take Golden Gate Parkway East to CR-951/Collier Blvd. Turn right. Watch for Magnolia Pond Dr., which will be .5 mile short of the I-75 interchange on your right. Continue as above to the school. Park around to the left of  the auditorium, which is on the west end of the school complex.
