Student Recitals Program Description and Recital Schedule

“Be a Music Major for a Day”

Enjoy a day to include a guided tour of this new, incredible acoustically engineered building, lunch in the excellent campus cafeteria, a little class time, observing portions of the University Choir and Symphonic Band rehearsals, attending a Piano Master Class led by Dr. Michael Baron with NMC members performing, and attendance at a student recital in the acclaimed recital hall.
Fee of $8.47 to participate covers lunch. Space is limited; members will receive priority. Reservations required. Send checks, made payable to “Deb Stone,” before October 20 to Dr. Deb Doud Stone, 20185 Markward Crossing, Estero, FL 33928. Please include your email address and phone number in case we need to contact you.

Directions to FGCU:

From the north: Take I-75 South to Exit 128, Alico Road. Go east (left) on Alico Road for half of a mile Go south (right) on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway for two miles. Turn left at the stoplight at the main FGCU entrance.

From the south: Take I-75 North to  Exit 123, Corkscrew Road. Go east (right) on Corkscrew Road for half of a mile. Turn north (left) on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway; go three miles to FGCU entrance. Note: If coming from Three Oaks Parkway, a new extension of Estero Parkway provides an overpass that links the road from Three Oaks Parkway to Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. One traffic light to the north on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway is the main entrance to the FGCU campus.

When you arrive at the entrance to FGCU, stop at the house by the entrance gate to obtain a visitors parking pass, then turn right at the first stop sign; left at the second, and Bower School of Music will be on your immediate right. Parking is available in the lot on  your right or the garage on the left. There is also handicapped parking and a drop-off area at the school entrance.

Each member will receive an invitation to attend and bring guests to this convivial party featuring performances by the Club’s 2010 Scholarship Winners. As the response card indicates, a check made out to Naples Music Club in the amount of $45 for each person attending should be sent by November 26 to Judy Halpin, 10060 Northridge Court, Bonita Springs, FL 34135.

Please use the front gate, which is on Coconut Road. The Three Oaks gate closes at 4:00 p.m.

Each year, members of the Naples Music Club delight in sharing their impressive talents with an appreciative public. This year’s recital will be a retrospective of the Romantic Era (1815-1910), one that produced such beloved composers as Schumann, Chopin and Liszt, whose bicentennials are being celebrated in 2010 and 2011.Maestro William Noll will be our host. This recital is dedicated to the memory of Laura Mahnil Fernando, who passed away in January of 2011.

2011 Annual Student Scholarship Competition

This prestigious competition, which has taken place since 1970, is for competitors and contest officials only.

Directions to Golden Gate High School: From Rt. 41 in Naples, take Golden Gate Parkway to I-75. Merge onto I-75 S towards Miami. Take Exit 101 for CR-951 toward Marco Island/Naples. Keep in left hand lane. Turn left at fork, following signs for CR-951 N/Golden Gate. Turn left at CR-951/Collier Blvd and continue past the ramp leading to I-75 north. In .5 mile turn left at a traffic light onto Magnolia Pond Drive. Golden Gate High School will be .7 mile on your right. Alternately, if you prefer not to use I-75, take Golden Gate Parkway to CR-951/Collier Blvd. Turn right. Watch for Magnolia Pond Dr., which will be .5 mile short of the I-75 interchange on your right. Continue as above to the school. Park around to the left of  the auditorium, which is on the west end of the school complex.

This popular recital will introduce the outstanding top winners of the Club’s 2011 Student Scholarship Competition to the membership and to the community. All winners will be announced and will receive their awards at the conclusion of the recital. This recital is dedicated to the memory of Gunter Manchen, who passed away in January of 2011.
